Our client is seeking a seasoned Underwriter for SBA Loans. This position is accountable for underwriting and structuring of Small Business Administration (SBA) Loans and USDA loans and loans. Also oversees the development and maintenance of a Government guaranteed loan portfolio including credit quality, delinquency control, observance to bank policies and compliance with all banking regulations.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide credit and loan underwriting expertise to Relationship Supervisors on government guaranteed loans.
  • Collect, analyze and assess financial and related data to determine credit worthiness of loan prospects and qualities of specific loan requests.
  • Recommend terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method and collateral requirements.
  • Prepare credit memorandums and present loan requests to loan committee when applicable.
  • Preserve a loan portfolio including tracking of documentation, exceptions, insurance, tracking of financial covenants and risk grading evaluation.
  • Follow delinquent accounts and keep delinquency of portfolio under administration within approved limits.
  • Identify frail or problem assets and, with the assistance of the Government Guaranteed Lending Supervisor, prepare problem loan reports quarterly.
  • Interact with staff involved in documentation preparation, computer operations, loan accounting and note servicing to assure a high level of accuracy with work product.
  • Assess loan purpose and disbursement procedures for all loans and determine source of cash collateral on cash secured loans in accordance with the bank's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) policy and procedures.
  • Support the Bank's robust relationship banking culture through on-going client contact, quality client service, and superior product acquaintance.
  • Understand and adhere to the Bank's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) policy, procedures and guidelines.
  • Brings any suspicious action to the attention of a supervisor, or the Bank Secrecy Act Officer.
  • Maintain up to date acquaintance and may train others on products, services, departmental systems, and related technology, policies and procedures.
  • Follow all Bank policies and procedures to safeguard compliance with all laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or Economics.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of commercial credit underwriting experience required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of working experience with SBA/USDA programs required.
  • Formal credit training preferred, combined with good credit and analytical skills.
  • In-depth understanding of general economic theory as it relates to the banking and business environment.
  • Some experience or thorough education in accounting and finance principals.
  • Effective communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Capacity to interact with all levels of clients, staff, and management.
  • Capacity to work successfully in a deadline driven, team environment.

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
