Will play a key role in orchestrating the safety culture in four plants for this large international manufacturer. Position reports to the Corporate Safety Manager. Position is 85% safety and 15% environmental (mainly regulatory reporting). The key is a strong plant safety background coupled with the ability to develop working relationships with the Safety Committees, Department Managers, Plant Managers and line employees.
IMPORTANT: Several Corporate EHS professionals are nearing retirement in about three years. The person filling this position MUST be promotable within a three-year window. Promotion will not require relocation but will result in additional plants coming under this person's domain. Excellent verbal and written skills are important. Good group of people to work with in this multi-billion dollar company. One of the leaders in their field.
Must be comfortable leading/training/developing relationships with plant personnel in an effort to further reduce injuries and workers comp., conducting EHS audits at each facility, communicating and coordinating EHS activities with other regions to share best practices, and playing a key role in the leadership and assistance of EHS integration of newly acquired facilities. Must have working knowledge of worker compensation, OSHA, and the ability to build relationships at the plant level. The successful person will recognize the need to spend significant time on the plant floor of each facility to better understand the needs of the people and how to make the work floor a safer place to work. Must be comfortable traveling to three other plants (use of rental car that is paid for by employer) on a regular basis. Travel is likely to approach 40-50% some months. Corporate Safety Manager is a great guy to work for.
Requires 7-10 years of plant level safety experience. A four-year degree is required along with a stable work history, excellent verbal skills, and the capacity for future growth. Should be comfortable with interfacing on a daily basis with Plant Managers, Department Managers, and shop floor people in an effort to ensure a safety culture that meets or exceeds expectations.
