Position Overview -  Enterprise Solution Architect

The Enterprise Solution Architect is responsible for technical architectural leadership, playing a vital role in planning, coordinating and architecting all activities related to the overall integration of software programs, applications, and third-party solutions as required to meet the requirements of the bank. The candidate with collaborate with Development teams, business leads to find opportunities to improve efficiency reduce technical debt, improve flexibility, etc. The candidate is also responsible for developing and maintaining an application architecture blueprint for the client bank. The Solution Architect will oversee interoperability and compatibility of application modules under development by in-house software development teams, commercial off-the-shelf software deployed in house, and with external third parties as necessary. The candidate must be able to think independently, analyze, troubleshoot and resolve complex business and technical problems. Proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of integration best practices are critical to successful performance in this role.


Role and Responsibilities

  1. Head responsibility to delivery of technical architectural design, plans and strategies
  2. Architect and develop mission-critical, enterprise systems for highly visible projects
  3. Influence business units, group, and corporate leaders on change requirement to support business and IT strategies for both existing and new technologies from design, documentation, testing, and implementation
  4. Provide technical consulting on complex strategic initiatives in one or more phases of application development
  5. Review and assess new and existing business and technical solutions for specific challenges or risks
  6. Develop and maintain strong business and IT relations
  7. Liaise with software developers and engineers to address issues in program logic and the interoperability of new applications with existing systems software
  8. Define, communicate, influence and maintain the long-term strategic live systems architecture for Fremont Bank
  9. Implement and mature architectural practices to define and/or maintain business architecture models, designs of the information flow to business functions, and guide business enabling IT investment
  10. Ensure IT investment decisions and program, projects, and planning are in alignment with Emerson wide architecture standards, patterns, and roadmaps
  11. Advise other professionals (project managers, architects, and business leaders) on tools, technologies, and methodologies related to the design and development of IT solutions
  12. Make recommendations for continuous improvement of Fremont Bank wide policies and procedures and Standards
  13. Drive enterprise-wide solution and application design process and hold others accountable for achieving solution scope
  14. Comply with apt escalation as well as change control procedures
  15. Work closely with application and business teams to design, customization and integration of application and data services that are scalable, reliable and highly available to FB clients and internal associates
  16. Consult, review, and approve application and database changes
  17. Advise developers with best practices and patterns
  18. Reviews, provides input and approves the technical platform architecture and data architecture 
  19. Create and maintain IT investment strategies in alignment with critical business needs
  20. Collaborate with at both leadership and operational levels, to understand and synthesize strategic drivers for IT enablement
  21. Aligns solution architecture with enterprise architecture strategy, blueprints & roadmap, and leverages frameworks & standards
  22. Ensure that application projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill clients’ requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues
  23. Evaluate results of application projects, then report and make recommendations based on findings
  24. Keep pace with current technology trends and incorporate that knowledge appropriately
  25. Develop and mentor senior technical resources
  26. Leads and manages a cross-functional team to drive selected major programs, primarily focused on cost-down initiatives but
    may also include delivery performance, inventory reduction, quality risk
    improvement, and large-scale value stream improvements
  27. Play a key role in the process for defining the strategies that results in a portfolio of projects that are evaluated for investment
  28. Drive implementation of standard tools to estimate and prioritize projects within the portfolio, this includes documenting key risks and developing a basic understanding of what is required to mitigate them
  29. Develop an approach for establishing cost-down road maps for critical value streams across the organization
  30. Upgrade information on industry products plus solutions through trade journals, professional associations, networking, associated training and seminars


Minimum Experience

  1. 8 years direct experience in enterprise level application architecture
  2. Experience with one or more enterprise architecture frameworks
  3. Familiarity with information systems management practices (e.g. ITIL, CMMI, etc.) preferred
  4. Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) technologies and method
  5. Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and heterogeneous processing environments
  6. Ability to estimate the financial impact of architecture alternatives
  7. Proven experience with leading tools and techniques across multiple areas of technology, applicable to a multi-platform environment
  8. Demonstrated ability to work in a complex organization to determine enterprise-wide information systems needs and to build the environment to facilitate the development of systems to meet those needs
  9. Sound knowledge of, commercial software packages, tools, including the entire technology stack, and the ability to utilize many when architecting solutions
  10. Knowledge of relational database design and management techniques
  11. Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  12. Competency with XML constructs and schemas
  13. Comprehensive experience with security solution architecture from an application perspective and demonstrable success of aligning technical teams with business, and managing the delivery of associated technical services, solutions, architectures, and technologies
  14. Technical knowledge of authentication and authorization protocols, threat modeling and application security
  15. Familiarity with the whole software development lifecycle including modern development tools, languages and frameworks, continuous integration/deployments tools and monitoring, performance, and optimization practices
  16. Core banking system experience is a plus
