JOB DESCRIPTION

Certified Weld Inspector

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Current or previous qualification as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Work within AWS D1.1 and D14.1 standards.
  • Proficient in visual and magnetic particle examination of welds.
  • Verify company weld standards and process controls are being met (e.g. proper weld procedure, base metal, filler metal)
  • Check the weld to blueprint requirement.
  • Record inspection data in a database, on forms, and/or document in ERP system.
  • Development of procedure qualification records (PQR) and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Record control of welder qualifications and continuity.
  • Oversee weld testing.
  • Work with suppliers on testing of weld personnel weld samples.
  • Marking defective welds and to be able to explain deficiencies to weld personnel when asked.
  • Write non-conformances when required.
  • Responsible for making recommendations to improve the overall process and efficiency.
  • Exhibit good communication skills with all levels of management.
  • Computer savvy.
  • Possess a working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Prior experience in companies with ISO9001 / NQA-1 (Nuclear systems) is a plus.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Participates in Continuous Improvement and 6S.
  • Follows safety rules and keeps the work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Involvement in ISO and Nuclear audit process when required.
  • Willingness to be trained to take on additional job responsibilities or act as backup within the QA group.
  • Review and approve material test reports (MTRs).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Weld inspection 1 year
  • High school or equivalent
