This role is not for a traditional “Collections Manager” that leads an in-house team. We’re looking for a high-level Collections and Vendor Management leadership candidate with specialized skills in Vendor Management, In-house Team Building, Channel Management, and US Legal Compliance. Someone with an Operational, Call Center, Workflow Management background who could use these skills to strategically scale a rapidly expanding, very well-funded startup with big-name backing.

This person would be responsible for building out the entire US Collections Department of a Canadian Company

The Collections and Vendor Manager will play an important role in driving collections performance as expand into the US market. You would be responsible for onboarding, oversight and working directly with multiple agencies that handle pre and post-charge-off collections. You would also need to use analysis and observation in order to recommend strategy and process improvements to enhance and evolve the business.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

A day in the life:

  • Evaluate and onboard collection agencies
  • Demonstrate an ongoing comprehensive working knowledge of first-party and third-party regulations governing the Collections industry
  • Analysis of reports to identify trends and provide direction to vendors for appropriate enhancements to call strategies
  • Interact professionally with the management of Agency vendors working pre and post charge off accounts for the most cost-efficient results within established Policy and Procedures
  • Meet Customer Experience and Compliance standards through the use of the monitoring process of agencies
  • Provide coaching and feedback of results to internal and vendor management teams
  • Work with other departments such as customer service to problem solve and generate efficiencies 

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Skills:

Collections:

  • Insightful collections strategist
  • Collections end to end, early-stage service, preventative care to late stage
  • Building in house teams, performance management, recognition and compensation programs
  • Compliance Management expert
  • Knowledge of Probate, Legal and Bankruptcy standards
  • SCRA handling, Credit bureau disputes
  • Complaint handling as it relates to legal escalations and or to government agencies
  • Workout and hardship programs
  • Quality Assurance
  • Digital Collection strategies and channel management

Vendor Management:

  • Running RFP processes
  • Vendor assessment, scoring and due diligence
  • Vendor onboarding
  • Vendor Management
  • Managing multiple collection agencies simultaneously and improvement of SLA's

General:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred
  • Highly strategic in nature
  • Ability to work independently based on general direction
  • Strong analytical and conflict resolution skills.
  • Collections, legal, analytics and recovery experience in the US
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Google apps
  • Experience in managing Agency/Client relationships.
  • Ability to work and evolve our business with limited oversight
  • Project management experience an asset
  • High degree of accountability, takes ownership
  • Creative problem solver
  • 10% Travel required

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience growing and scaling departments
  • Workflow Management with a focus on efficiency and process improvement
  • Oversight and responsibility for multiple departments outside of collections. Ex. Customer Service, Cal Center, Lending or Service related
  • Building programs from scratch including collections, compliance and or service
  • Experience with startups
  • Data and analytical skills
  • Experience building or informing collections policies/procedures
  • Experience with multiple collections platforms - building, requirements defining and reporting
  • Independent and resourceful
  • Strong communication skills
