JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Manage projects within this technology leader whilst contributing towards the innovation and implementation of Controls and Automation systems on a global scale.  The Longwall Control and Automation Engineering Manager will have direct responsibility for the development and deployment of innovative control and automation systems which provide clear product differentiation with  competitors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct investigations, conduct engineering analysis and run tests as required using innovative approaches when standard ones are non-productive or inadequate.
  • Identify and develop innovation opportunities and new mining technologies which strengthen my client’s position as the highest productivity and lowest cost per tonne supplier of longwall mining systems.
  • Ensure flawless start-up of all Automation in Australia, on time and to specification.
  • Ensure plans are developed and implemented to support the business growth and the customer requirements.
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual engineering plan in support of the business strategy and manage the department in line with the budget.
  • ·Develop and implement strategies to improve Longwall product system performance. In addition, the mining process and maintenance support requirements need optimisation in order to support this goal.
  • Develop, organize, evaluate, and motivate, in consultation with the Director of Longwall, a competent and effective regional department in terms of numbers, qualifications and experience to support the company’s short and long-term objectives.
  • Develop effective working relationships and alliances with technology innovators both internal and external to the mining industry to support new product development needs.
  • In cooperation with the sales and service organization, ensure the customer requirements are well supported in terms of clarity of expectations and delivery requirements.
  • Work with global team to ensure effective communication on all product issues and schedule resources to provide prompt response and resolution of equipment problems in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your Knowledge, skills and abilities will include:

  • A 4-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Technology is preferred
  • RPEQ is desired
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience managing people and/or major projects in industry is required.
  • Five years of experience in machine design is preferred
  • Professional registration and/or membership in technical societies is desired.
  • Project management experience is desired
  • A working knowledge in the application of electrical systems, electronics, software and recent technologies
  • Understanding of the longwall mining process and challenges
  • Understanding of control systems

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
