JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY: Manages the nursing services and staff for the Emergency Department and ICU; ensures quality and full compliance with relevant policies and standards. 

DUTIES: 

The Director of the Emergency and ICU Department is responsible for the patient population, clinical practice, fiscal accountability/productivity, regulatory compliance, leadership, professionalism, and exhibiting humanism for specified nursing department. This includes nursing practice, management and development of nursing personnel. 

The Director of Emergency and ICU Department collaborates with the Hospital DON/CNO to ensure the delivery of quality individualized patient care and to support the nursing and hospital philosophy. The Director is responsible for ensuring that a process is in place to coordinate care, treatment, and service among programs, or departments and holding staff accountable for their respective responsibilities. 
The Director liaisons with Medical Directors and Medical Staff to support patient needs. This position may handle human blood and other potentially infectious and/or hazardous materials, which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or harmful elements. The Director demonstrates an ability to make clinical judgements in an efficient and effective manner. 


QUALIFICATIONS:
 
• Graduate of a Registered Nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
• Current IL RN license.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS certification.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical patient care experience in a relevant ED/ER and ICU setting preferred.
• Minimum of 2-3years of healthcare management/leadership and/or supervisory experience preferred.

• Knowledge of emergency medical services.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.

• Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
