Goderich, Interested candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in experienced Maintenance Mining facility Or Heavy Duty Manufacturing

  • 10 years’ experience in trade (Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic or Millwright or Engineer)
  • 3-5 years of that as a supervisor. Preferably in a mining and Union environment
  • Mechanic with off road/mining experience, (continuous miners, flexible conveyors – preferred, but not a show stopper) , scoops, trucks, and aerial equipment.
  • The millwright plant / mining experience with belt lines, crushers, screens, (continuous miners, flexible conveyors – preferred but not a show stopper).
  • The Engineer should have at least 5-10 years’ experience with direct skilled trades supervision

Currently seeking an experienced EHS Manager for a full-time opportunity with a mine in Goderich, ON area. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors of Science degree and 10 years of EHS experience, preferably in an underground mining environment.

 

Responsibilities of the Mining EHS Manager

  • Responsible for planning, directing, and monitoring the quality, direction, and effectiveness of safety, environmental and security programs for the mine
  • Lead, coach and mentor directly a team of four (4) and indirectly three (3) hourly Safety Trainers
  • Formulate Health and Safety policy in compliance with all related federal and provincial regulations
  • Develop and maintain company safety policies and procedures to address all safety protocols
  • Ensure timely and appropriate risk assessments are conducted; assess results
  • Research safety regulations to ensure the company keeps current on laws, best practices and safety standards in the industry
  • Conduct new employee and contractor safety orientation and training
  • Manage the investigation process for incidents and near-misses; completes related reports, and handle the workers’ compensation claim processes
  • Conduct and/or coordinate facility inspections to identify and correct safety hazards
  • Act as company representative for inspections of company facilities by external parties
  • Coordinate remediation of citations
  • Identify H&S training and coaching needs for the facility
  • Evaluation and monitor success of training programs
  • In partnership with the Leadership Team build a ‘Go Forward H&S Strategy’

Requirements of the Mining EHS Manager

  • Must have Mining experience, Underground mining environment experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree, Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental/Industrial Hygiene discipline, science or engineering preferred
  • Minimum ten years of experience managing the EHS function in an industrial high risk environment
  • Experience creating, implementing and overseeing behavior-based safety programs
  • Professional certification as an Industrial Hygienist, Safety Professional and/or Professional Engineer
  • Skilled at completing risk assessments on business H&S capabilities
  • Accomplished at building out and tying H&S Road Map Strategies
  • Exceptional time, priority and project management skills
  • Capital Project Management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in building, leading and motivating others
  • Proven success leading initiatives without direct authority and/or control
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines
  • Competent understanding of related H&S regulatory and compliance standards
  • Experience in worker’s compensation claims management
  • Computer proficiency, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports
