Job Summary:

  • The Emergency Department (ED) Manager is responsible for the clinical and operational activities within the ED.
  • Responsible for the management of resources required to deliver high quality cost effective patient care. 
  • Consults with staff, physicians and the Chief Nursing Officer on patient care issues and strategic business planning. 
  • Monitors patient care for quality based on external benchmarks.
  • Leads the departments in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Applies evidence-based healthcare practices.
  • Reviews patient and staff data to measure and improve the effectiveness of patient care.
  • Develops, interprets, supports and implements policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. 
  • Ensures effective and appropriate utilization of all available resources to assure quality, effective services.
  • Responsible for planning, preparation, utilization, evaluation and monitoring of budget. 
  • Meets established budget performance targets.
  • Makes recommendations to management regarding cost savings and profitability improvement strategies. 
  • Selects, orients, supervises and evaluates clinical staff.
  • Manages employee performance by clearly defining job responsibilities and standards of performance.
  • Tracking progress against goals; providing clear, thorough, timely feedback; and addressing performance problems and issues promptly to promote a productive and supportive work environment.
  • Delegates authority and accountability to staff for responsibilities and decisions that are consistent with scope of practice (where applicable), rules and regulations of governmental authorities, and policies of
  • the institution. 
  • Assists with developing priorities, goals, and action plans.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership, interdisciplinary teams and other stakeholders in order to develop, implement and evaluate programs and services.
  • Facilitates communication and problem solving for departments; leads or serves on committees; serves as a liaison between the medical staff and ancillary departments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors' of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing; current BLS and ACLS required. 
  • Master's degree preferred. 
  • One (1) years in a nursing management role preferred. 
  • Experience in the specialty area in which they will be assigned is required.
  •  

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Current NYS RN License 

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
