General Manager

A local NE Iowa Manufacturing company is seeking a General Manager to manage and lead overall plant operations ensuring the achievement of plant targets for Safety, Quality, Service and Cost. This will be executed through providing strong leadership to the plant team and managing the systems, equipment, people and materials according to the established policies, procedures, specifications, and customer requirements. This individual reports directly to the President of the company. Plant Manager has direct leadership responsibility for the plant leadership team at a 130 person union manufacturing facility.

  • Responsible for providing strategic level/long-term planning and program development to ensure attainment of business plan for operational goals, labor planning, growth, and profitability
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and improve productivity to meet and exceed business objectives; works on strategic projects that have plant and network-wide impact. Effectively leverages the leadership team to solicit ideas and understand problems and challenges in the plant
  • Establish objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience
  • Set clear goals and expectations for Operations and Managers. Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds leaders accountable
  • Mentor and develop leaders and staff
  • Directly leverages and indirectly manages resources located at the plant in the areas of purchasing, finance, human resources, and information technology
  • Own and deliver the operational budget for functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning
  • Continuously evaluate and measure current performance against forecast and cost estimates
  • Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates customer needs
  • High level Union responsibilities, including contract negotiations and application of the contract provisions

 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of career progression in a manufacturing environment including roles as a production manager, continuous improvement manager, manufacturing area manager, operations manager, six sigma black belt, or similar in a manufacturing environment; to include 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and drive continuous improvement, performance metrics and lean methodologies
  • Previous P&L responsibility and strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of drivers of plant results, including ability to interpret financial results
  • Previous experience leading in a union environment is highly preferred

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
