My long time mining client is on a hiring spree as the staff is slowly retiring. They require a mine geologist for their underground Nova Scotia operations.They are located in Northen NS and the opportunity exists to join an organization for the longterm and reside in a beautiful, peaceful and low cost of living area in Eastern Canada. My lcient has always considered candidates living in Eatern Can or who have roots in Eastern Canada first but they are fully open to relocating anyone. Must be residing in Canada. 5+ yrs experience min required. Immediate need.



The incumbent’s main objective is to plan, coordinate and supervise the activities related to geology and quality, in order to ensure the finished products meet or exceed customer expectations, while taking into account health and safety, sustainability, productivity and labour relations.


The Geologist & QC Supervisor reports directly to the Engineering Manager. The incumbent must regularly interface with the Production staff and employees, as well as with various corporate functions . The QC lab and QC technicians report to the Geologist.



The incumbent is responsible of the site geology program, with an emphasis on health and safety, quality, sustainability, productivity and labour relations. The Geologist goes underground on a daily basis to perform geology mapping of active faces, review blasted muckpiles to confirm his predictions and minimize risk, and to perform mapping in older areas of the mine.

When there is a diamond drilling campaign on-going, the geological information from core drilling is logged and mapped for future reference with the help of the Mine Engineer. The incumbent works closely with the Production Manager and Mine Engineer to plan future production areas.

The geology mapping information is plotted on mine maps using AutoCAD and the interpretation of the geological structures of the mine is done on a regular basis. The interpretation needs to take into consideration the mapping of levels above and below and data recovered from core logging.

The geologist is responsible for the optimized flow process, from the underground conveying and crushing system to the mill. He/she is also in charge of the site Quality program.

The incumbent periodically supervises production crews and contract work.



  1. Geology degree or Mining Engineering degree with relevant experience.
  2. Abide by all applicable legislation and regulations.
  3. Abide by all posted signs, employee safety rules, and applicable job procedures.
  4. Perform inspections, observations, measurements and study on geological data.
  5. Determine and manage quality assurance program, including applicable control measures.
  6. Make recommendations to ensure and improve product quality, and when needed, actions required to correct deficiencies.
  7. Support the production department to meet the quality objectives and keep his/her supervisor informed on quality performance.
  8. Provide support in long term mine planning to achieve required product quality and recovery.
  9. Coordinate customer complaint resolution process.
  10. Responsible for the site ISO 9001 program and the associated document control process.
  11. Compiles, maintains and reports all required Quality KPIs.
  12. All geology mapping for existing and accessible openings as well as new openings.
  13. Revise mine plans for underground with geology perspective and purity optimization in mind.
  14. Geology logging and projections for production faces.
  15. Generate cross-sections of the Geology of the mine.
  16. Liaison between Engineering and Production.
  17. Share geological knowledge with employees and increase their level of understanding of our ore body through training and coaching.
  18. Project planning and management as required.
  19. Maintaining the computer CAD system for Geology
  20. Optimizing crushing and milling operations.
  21. Develop a relationship between the type of salt (purity, color, particle size, etc) and the mill performance.



Degree in Geology or Mine Engineering

5 + yrs mining experience

University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
