We fill specific needs in many sectors, including energy, emergency management, maritime operations, coastal recreation, insurance, Smart Home technology, gardening & landscaping, education, and more.

Striving to leave the planet in a better place, we provide data and tools pro bono to national met agencies and climate scientists around the globe. We are helping those groups with their core missions of saving lives and using science to plan responsibly for future generations.

Our company was formed in 2019 and has experienced explosive growth already, with an array of technology and services designed to scale globally. We hit the ground running thanks to the expertise of our leadership team, who have great experience, both in the weather industry and launching successful start-ups in other markets.  Some of our founders began creating weather observing networks and providing high-resolution weather forecasts in the early 90’s. We have already built a powerful new team of Ph.D. atmospheric and data scientists, engineers, and business executives. 

The company currently has the equivalent of 60 FTEs (some are currently contractors) and is in the process of hiring additional employees. 

Until recently the company was funded by the founders and angel investors, and has now secured the investment needed to pursue very rapid growth for the next chapter.

Innovative High-Tech Start-up offering Environmental Data and Decision Support Seeks Head of Product

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced product and marketing leader capable of overseeing 3 key departments and building a start-up from a maturing yet early stage. The right candidate will have strong experience with strategic product planning and marketing. Must also be a contemporary superstar with contemporary marketing techniques including, paid & organic social media, other internet-based PR, captivating influencers, and creating/distributing relevant content. In short, we need an expert at building consumer interest to a fever pitch while having strong skills with distribution deals. We require someone versatile and you would be required to wear many hats. You should be comfortable in a startup environment where life can be ambiguous and chaotic. You must be a highly effective leader and have experience managing teams, marketing and business development professionals, as well as interacting with software development managers. You should be able to speak their language and lead them to drive revenue through a comprehensive marketing strategy. This position requires a great deal of organization, multi-tasking, and project management.

  • Managing all aspects of strategic Product and Marketing planning, investment and execution while receiving strong support from the Software Development, Business Development and Marketing departments and existing key internal leaders.
  • Leading the Product and Marketing Strategy for Business to Consumer and a large role with Business to Business efforts.  As the company’s current team is deeper in B to B know-how, contemporary B to C marketing and product experience is important. 
  • Working with the sales department to develop pricing strategies to maximize profits and market share while balancing customer satisfaction.
  • Some of the company's products are apps and SaaS tools while others include hardware and apps. The candidate's role will be heavily focused on the software side, while creating and supporting a shared vision of all products is important, as is an ability to direct others to execute that vision.
  • Organizing, communicating, and managing technical projects and ensuring milestone success. 
  • Understanding and developing budgets and finance, including expenditures, research and development appropriations, return-on-investment and profit-loss projections.
  • Managing and motivating key personnel.
  • Building brand awareness and positioning.
  • Directing social media (organic and paid) with a focus on guerilla marketing campaigns.
  • Leading the acquisition of influencers and managing various PR aspects and vendors.
  • Managing a multi-million dollar, growing product development and marketing budget.

 

Other 

Regular early-stage physical presence in the Santa Cruz area is required, but working remotely is allowed and that ability to work remotely will increase over time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in high-tech, fast-growing companies.
  • Strong organization skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent technical project management capabilities, and success with distributed organizations.
  • Leadership background with technical teams managing software development, marketing and business development teams.
  • Experience should reflect very strong knowledge of B2C with B2B as a large plus.  
  • Experience with strategic planning and managing a product/marketing road map.
  • Must be intensely motivated to deliver results.
  • Combination of technical and business/marketing-focused education preferred.  Successful experience is our highest priority

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
