I/T Manager – Manufacturing – Western Canada  Our client is a family owned business that has operated for over 25 years.  They are a specialty meat manufacturer spanning four plants in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.  Reporting to the CFO, the IT Manager has overall responsibility of overseeing the information technology department in support of organizational goals, policies, and strategy. The role will provide leadership, mentoring, coaching, managerial, and strategic direction to the IT team for system support; help desk; network security; manage third party suppliers and vendors; and the maintenance of infrastructure for each location. The manager will possess advanced technical knowledge and a dedication to the adoption and implementation of industry best practices.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Critical Objectives:

  • Ensuring regular checks on network and data security
  • Identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and update software and systems
  • Developing and implementing IT policy and best practice guides for the organization
  • Designing training programs and workshops for staff
  • Conducting regular system audits
  • Running and sharing regular operation system reports with senior staff
  • Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages
  • Managing and reporting on the allocation of IT budget
  • Managing performance of IT team members
  • Identifying opportunities for team training and skills advancement

Responsibilities:

 

Safety

  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment for all employees and contractors

  • Manage team towards achieving zero lost time and medical aid incidents
  • Will assist in enforcing HACCP/GMP and food safety regulations

  • Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly plant communication forums are conducted routinely and effectively
  • Ensure performance management processes are timely and constructive: inclusive of weekly team meetings, monthly one to one, development plans, bi-annually performance reviews, and the annual employee survey.

 

IT Functional Execution

  • Network Infrastructure and Security
    • Ensure critical systems are available 24/7 for operations and reporting
    • Develop a plan, coordinate, and implement network security policies and procedures
    • Preparing and submitting capital and operating budgets for IT
    • Develop and implement capital and admin budgets
    • Determine the organization’s long term systems needs and manage hardware acquisition
  • Software and Systems Applications
    • Support IT programmer for application projects
    • Focus on new applications, development, and enhancement of the current system to improve performance and efficiencies
  • Processes & Procedures
    • Identify methods and means to enhance automation, data gathering, and processing for reporting accuracy
    • Develop and communicate best practices procedures/processes to team and organization
    • Develop and enhance service delivery methods and documentation standards
  • Management and Administration
    • Oversee execution of all internal IT processes, procedures, and support to manufacturing, warehousing, DSD, maintenance, office, and other business processes
    • Maintain a cost-effective manpower plan
    • Manage annual site costs to lower than inflation
    • Validate execution of all routine, preventative and predictive maintenance tasks for systems, infrastructure, monitoring, and all relevant sub-systems
    • Fulfill helpdesk tasks in accordance with SLAs to tier one, two, and three tickets
    • Ensure department establishes effective client services relationships within the organization
  • Relentlessly benchmark, innovative solutions and challenge the status quo with respect to current and future technological applications

 

Quality

  • Ensure user and department adherence to established processes, specification, routines and procedures compliance
  • Develop and maintain all SOPs and systems documentation
  • Effect systems and procedural compliance audits

  • Leverage applied technological advances to update network efficacy
  • Dedication to continuing learning through online, benchmarking, and adoption of best practices
  • Leverage Root Cause Analysis/Process Analytics/Lean Problem Solving

  • Minimum 10 years of IT Management experience
