JOB DESCRIPTION

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the development and coordination of an effective hospital-wide program for surveillance, prevention, and control of infection. This individual assures on-going review and analysis of hospital-acquired infections, data, risk factors, and special studies; and monitors and controls infections hospital-wide. 

 

Required: Current NYS RN License, Bachelors of Science
Degree in Nursing or Healthcare; minimum of 3 to 5 years of previous health
care experience Preferred: Experience working in a role associated with
Infection Prevention; Master's degree in Nursing, CIC

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

• Required: Associate’s
  in Applied Science or diploma program in Nursing.
• 
  Preferred: Bachelor of Science in nursing
• 
  Required: Current RN license in New York State
• 
  Preferred: 
  Board Certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC)

 

Work Experience:

• 
  Required:  3-5 years’ experience working in acute care
• 
  Preferred: 
  Work experience related to Infection Prevention activities

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities/ Essential Job Functions:

  Strong analytic, data management and computer
  skills. 
• 
  Knowledge of best practice as it relates to
  Infection Prevention management. 
• 
  Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  with multi-disciplines, medical staff and peers.

  Ability to manage multiple priorities. 
• 
  Ability to work independently without direct
  supervision. 
• 
  Ability to provide education related to
  Infection Prevention to licensed and non-licensed staff.
• 
  Must hold a valid Driver’s License and have a
  driving record in Good Standing
