The successful candidate will design, specify, and implement field instrumented devices, pressure relief devices, process analyzers and interfaces to process control systems. They will also have responsibility for support role of field instrumentation, analyzer maintenance and capital projects to facilitate the PAC Group’s role to improve yields, occupancy and production rates. Lastly, they will also apply principles and techniques gained within industry wide automation technical competencies to accomplish these goals.

Instrumentation Engineer – Process Automation & Controls

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

The successful candidate will design, specify, and implement field instrumented devices, pressure relief devices, process analyzers and interfaces to process control systems. They will also have responsibility for support role of field instrumentation, analyzer maintenance and capital projects to facilitate the PAC Group’s role to improve yields, occupancy and production rates. Lastly, they will also apply principles and techniques gained within industry wide automation technical competencies to accomplish these goals.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and implement measurement and control improvement projects, interfacing with Process and Control Systems Engineers to achieve Automation and Controls improvement goals
  • Support in updating and managing unit calibration requirements for new/existing metering instruments and process analyzers.
  • Assist 3rd party and maintenance technicians for various analyzers
  • Development and optimization of Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures for field instruments and analyzers
  • Provide updates to safety/environmental critical instrument maintenance plans, and provide support to audit and validate safety/environmental critical instrument inspections.
  • Focal point for Pressure Relief Device specifications and relief system design with support from Process Engineering and Mechanical Engineering roles.
  • Drive to completion actions to reduce usage and energy consumption, improve yields, minimize waste, and increase occupancy from an instrumentation standpoint.
  • Provide engineering support to instrument maintenance and reliability personnel.
  • Provide instrumentation support during major plant turnarounds (T/A)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • 4-6 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing or related industry 
  • Experience with instrumentation typical to process industry such as Temperature / Pressure / flow transmitters, control valves, regulators, and interfaces to control systems (solenoids, relays, signal isolators, etc.)
  • Background in specification and diagnostics of Measurement and Control Element Devices
  • Ability to develop and update P&I drawings, loop drawings, specification sheets, and electrical schematics
  • Understanding of Automation Body of Standards (ANSI/ISA, IEC, NFPA, etc.)

 

 

ADDITIONAL BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience in Control Valve sizing, flow orifice sizing, and/or Pressure Relief Valve Sizing
  • Knowledge of analyzer measurement principles for pH, Conductivity, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Silica
  • Experience in design, specification, and maintenance of Safety Interlock Systems (SIS) Sensors and Final Elements under the ISA84/IEC61511 Functional Safety Lifecycle requirements.
  • Knowledge in programming and maintenance of Allen Bradley PLC and/or Emerson DeltaV DCS platforms
  • Experience in low voltage motor controls, Motor Operated Valves (MOVs) and variable speed drives is a plus

 

 

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum Required: B.S. in Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited university

It manufactures high quality Acrylonitrile Hydrogen Cyanide, Melamine, Oleum, Sulfuric Acid, Acrylamide, Methyl Methacrylate, Ammonia and Methacrylic Acid that are used in a variety of everyday applications. They are experts at converting energy into industrial chemicals on a large scale.
