JOB DESCRIPTION

MSI Windows Installer – contract assignment that can potentially lead to perm  – Palo Alto, CA location

They offer a work environment that offers great technology, the ability to be an innovative problem solver to make a real impact.  This position requires strong knowledge and experience with building and shipping Windows software packages Even though this is more a release engineer than a developer, software development experience is helpful.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Understanding of Windows application release cycle.

- Deep understanding and extensive experience with Windows Installer (previously Microsoft Installer). Understand how to build an installer for both User-space applications as well as kernel driver. Both GUI and automated installation options are required. Understand how the package signing is done. Understand how to populate the binary file's property (such as version, vendor, icon file...)

- Extensive experiences with Microsoft scripting (batch, cmd and Powershell)

- Understanding of: the pitfalls of MS software maintenance, installation and removal, including handling the rollback and package versioning; other installer type, such as NSIS - Nullsoft Scriptable Install System; how to deploy and upgrade a package via different frameworks such as GPO (Group Policy) or SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager).

- Experience setting up the tests (both manual and automation) for all deployment and upgrade scenarios.

BIG BONUS:

- Experience with software development in Windows, especially system programming

- Kernel driver development

- Interacting with Windows Advanced Firewall using system APIs

QUALIFICATIONS

- a few years of related expereince
