Population Specific


  • The staff member must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. 
  • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed by neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient group. 


Exposure Control

Classification: Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is not reasonably anticipated. Normal work routine does not involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues




  • Provides operational management, oversees supervision of department employees, and coordinates all activities assigned to the Facilities (Maintenance) Departments at all assigned locations within the Health System.   
  • Responsible for all maintenance and building operations activities in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures, prevailing regulatory standards, and the organizational values.    
  • Facilitates services relative to maintenance and environmental conditions to allow for achievement of the health system's objectives.


Essential Job Functions:

(Maximum of the first 5 will be included in the performance appraisal)


Operation Mgmt 

  • Provides operational management of assigned facilities at multiple locations through the development and implementation of a comprehensive maintenance management program including the timely completion of preventive maintenance, corrective actions, requisitioned maintenance, and projects as performed by in-house, contracted or purchased services. 
  • Oversees the monitoring and control of plant operations and environmental conditions via the Building Automated Control system including the diagnosis and resolution of operational problems related to utilities management. 
  • Assures that all service is documented as required by NYSDOH, The Joint Commission, and other authority having jurisdiction  Off shift responsible. 


Safety Mgmt 

  • Coordinates inspection and testing of all fire safety systems, emergency electrical power systems, and medical gas and vacuum systems, meeting all applicable NFPA Standards and assuring comprehensive documentation acceptable to AHJ. 
  • Investigates and documents all incidental occurrences that may incur risk including unanticipated loss of building operating systems, utility outages, and slips, falls, or injuries as the result of the condition of the grounds or parking lots. 
  • Develops and implements corrective measures as needed 


Leadership Role 

  • Assures that work practices are in compliance with OSHA standards and department safety polices. 
  • Reviews, and revises Department Policies and Procedures, developing and implementing new Policies and Procedures as needed. 
  • Communicates and enforces Organizational and Departmental Policies and Procedures, providing counseling, guidance, and corrective action when necessary. 
  • Performs monthly staff meetings.


Education Minimum:

Training in electrical and/or HVAC technologies.  


Education Preferred:   

Two year degree in Facilities Management or related field or Equivalent experience



Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (ASHE) preferred.


Minimum Experience:  

  • 5 years experience in the management or supervision of facilities operations and maintenance.  
  • Computer literate: word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail protocols. 
  • Ability to understand building drawings.


Experience Preferred:  

Prior experience in a healthcare facility, a working knowledge of codes and standards for healthcare facilities, and familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems preferred.  



Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex, multi-entity health system.  

Ability to facilitate project management, work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.  

Familiarity with The Joint Commission, NYS Department of Health and other regulatory requirements. 

Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication (written and oral), analytical, and organizational skills. 

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public in a professional and courteous manner. 



Experience with Microsoft Office products including  word, excel and power point.
