Our Mechanical Engineering Team


Our mechanical engineers provide detailed design documentation and professional advice on all aspects of mechanical building services. This includes:

  • Detailed design documentation of mechanical building services suitable for Building Compliance and Tendering
  • Contract administration of mechanical services installations
  • Investigation and reporting on operational concerns and energy efficiency
  • NCC Section J Building Fabric (Part J1 and J3) compliance assessments for architects and building designers
  • NCC JV3 Section J verification method assessment
  • Energy Efficiency advice and advocacy


Our mechanical engineers whilst mainly concerned with the performance of air conditioning and ventilation systems, do expand our services into the Ecological Sustainable Design (ESD) space through our involvement in Building Fabric Assessment, JV3 Verification method assessments and energy simulation services.


Senior Mechanical Engineer


Report To:                                           Director


Supervises:                                        Team of multi-disciplinary skilled engineers, design officers and administration personnel


Qualification Required:                 Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Member of Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEAust) National Engineers Register (NER)

NSW Professional Engineers Registration

Registered Professional Engineer QLD (RPEQ) highly desirable


Where neither NER or RPEQ is not held, the successful applicant will be required to gain these qualifications within 1 year of engagement


Prerequisites:                                   Demonstrated experience with leading and managing multidisciplinary design teams

Strong written & verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills

Current motor vehicle licence





The ability to design and document building services projects involving Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning.

The ability to perform heat load and energy consumption calculations with the provided software.

Detailed understanding of building design compliance and certification processes.

The ability to work in a safe manner

The ability to prepare AutoCAD drawings of medium complexity without supervision

The ability to prepare REVIT Models of medium complexity without supervision

The ability to undertake calculations in BEAVER, CAMEL & similar software applications


First principles understanding of mechanical theory associated with:

  • NCC Mechanical services compliance assessments: Section E, F and J performance requirements
  • NCC Section J Part J1 & J3 building fabric assessments
  • NCC Section J Part J5 air conditioning and ventilation system efficiency assessments
  • Application of applicable Australian Standards to mechanical services design
  • AS1668.2 calculations for Outdoor Air, general exhaust, carpark and kitchen exhaust systems
  • AS1668 Natural Ventilation calculations for carparks
  • Air conditioning heat load assessment (ACADS CAMEL)
  • Air conditioning and ventilation equipment selection and specification.
  • Documentation of Mechanical services for Tender and Construction Certificate purposes.

Thermal calculations associated with detailed building energy efficiency assessments for JV3 and energy efficiency certification.


The ability to develop business relationships.

The ability to scope up a project and undertake fee estimates for tenders and proposals.

The ability to communicate with clients on disciplines outside of specific qualifications – Civil, Structural Geotechnical, Hydraulic and Electrical Services.

Understanding of the works associated with mechanical design and coordination of design with other professionals on project teams.

The ability to work autonomously

The ability to manage multi-disciplinary design teams. The ability to work in a safe manner.

The ability to utilise Microsoft Word and Excel.

The ability to operate office equipment – photocopier, plan printer etc.

Position Responsibilities:

Preparation of engineering documents

Site Inspection of existing assets and site details Communication and engagement with clients and contractors

Design team management

Mentoring and training of design team members

Business development including scoping projects, fees estimates and tenders

Problem resolution and decision making



Undertake duties as directed by the Director this includes but is not limited to:


Work Place Health and Safety:

  • Responsible for the health and safety of fellow employees and report incidents or injuries to the Director
  • Undertake work activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Use the supplied work vehicle in strict accordance to company policy
  • Notify the Administration Manager of all sickness leave requirements in a timely manner
  • The Senior Engineer managing projects is to implement the checklists contained in the procedures. Project specific checklists are to be created and verified before use by the Director


Design Duties:

  • Undertake designs as directed and in accordance with relevant Standards, Codes, Acts and Regulations
  • Preparation of reports, specifications and miscellaneous internal documentation
  • Undertake site inspections and meetings
  • Interpretation of architectural, civil, electrical, hydraulic, structural, surveying and supply authority drawings.
  • The Senior Engineer has the responsibility to notify the Director when the project is at the relevant percentage complete stage and available for Design Verification
  • Certification of Design
  • Responsibility and authority to identify and record non- conformances, propose Corrective Action and take Corrective Action with authorisation from the Director
  • Carry out modification to design, rectify non- conformances and submit to the Director for authorisation


Project and Team Management:

  • Design Project Management
  • Organisation of client milestones and delegation of priorities to the project team.
  • Continuously support and assist in identifying improvements in existing practise and processes.
  • Input into Project and Personnel reviews
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Take Corrective Action


Administration and Business Development:

  • Fee proposals
  • Monthly invoicing reports for projects
  • Marketing of company operations and skills
  • Operation of office equipment
