JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview:

Under the general direction of engineering management, responsible for the design, development, analysis, and troubleshooting of company products and/or components. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and drive the implementation of phase-gate project management practices within the company for new product development and R&D projects.
  • Work closely with the Business Development team to gather and analyze voice of the customer (VOC) as well as competitor assessments to develop and manage the product roadmaps and technology funnel processes
  • Manage project engineers and engineers in the execution of project plans to ensure successful performance to cost, schedule technical performance and risk mitigations.
  • Serve as a as technical leader to improve technical skills and processes within the engineering department
  • Perform senior level engineering design and analyses on projects and provide mentorship peer review support to other engineering staff
  • Develop strategies for acquiring new technology and improving existing technologies that complement the overall business. Support technology innovation processes and/or perform technical competitive analysis.
  • Plan technical scope and develop project plan, schedule, cost and resource estimates to support internal and external project proposals.
  • Maintain and protect all intellectual property developed and obtain patents as applicable.
  • Develop and implement best-in-class project management methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research finding progress reports in order to inform management of current status of each project.
  • Drive growth and innovation through hands-on research, development and engineering functions and by facilitating an environment of teamwork. Maintain adequately trained staff. Evaluate staff performance and develop goals and objectives.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain security clearance required.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

BS in mechanical or electrical engineering required. Master’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering strongly preferred.

Broad electro/mechanical engineering knowledge and product development experience following a structured, stage gate process required.

Must have systems engineering knowledge including requirements management and experience in performing/leading trade studies to define system architectures that incorporate various technologies including mechanical systems, digital and analog electronics, and embedded software. Experience/knowledge in configuration management and structured production release processes to maintain product and data configurations.

General knowledge in advanced technologies such as those related to data acquisition, transfer and storage, signal processing, Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), algorithms, and sensors a plus.

Over 13 years of product development experience, including 7+ years of engineering management using project management tools.

Experience in Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly and Design for Cost strongly preferred. Ability to dig into technical details and provide data-driven solutions.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote teams and across department disciplines.

Must be a proactive, self-starter with a passion to continually improve the company and its products. Related electromechanical experience and/ or experience with military or aerospace customers is a plus.
