Oncology Clinic Nurse Manager

PAID RELOCATION: $5000

SIGN ON BONUS $10000

Nursing supervisors are salaried, accrue 29 days per year of PTO and receive holiday bonus and night differential is they work nights.  

Description:

The Nurse Manager of Medical Oncology assumes the overall responsibility for:

directing the Hematology/Oncology staff in their provision of safe, effective and appropriate patient care.

working closely with physicians, radiation oncology therapists and service line directors.

ensuring that quality care is delivered in accordance with:established policies/procedures and process/outcome standards

regulatory and accreditation requirements

The nurse manager identifies educational needs of the staff and collaborators with appropriate resources and best practices to implement and document program to meet staff needs.  

Responsible for the formation and implementation and monitoring of cancer center PI Programs to ensure delivery of quality care according to benchmark targets established by the service line.

Nurse Manager assumes the responsibility for effective fiscal management by monitoring FTEs and optimizing staffing.  

He/she identifies opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost savings.  

He/she ensures client/customer service by monitoring PI initiative and patient satisfaction.  

Participates in analyses and planning for growth of cancer center programs and assists with engaging the staff and physicians in a team approach center of care.

Nurse Manager serves on the Cancer Committee and is part of the CoC (Commission on Cancer) accreditation task force.

 

Medical Center was founded in 1881 and has provided for the diverse healthcare needs of the community since that time. It has evolved from a five-bed hospital to currently a 290-bed acute care facility and regional referral center for northern New York. The hospital provides a full array of services including medical/surgical, critical care, pediatrics, maternity and a 24-hour full service emergency department, as well as inpatient mental health services. SMC offers over 40 specialty services and centers of excellence for the community, including Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Cancer Care, Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Robotics and many others.

The medical center currently is licensed for 290 beds and in 2015 had 8,738 acute discharges, 52,415 emergency department visits and 924,616 laboratory/imaging procedures.  Medical Center has nearly 1,800 FTE’s. The Medical Staff includes 172 physicians plus mid-level practitioners, most of whom are in solo or small partnership private practices in the community with privileges at MC.

Comprehensive Cancer Care Center – In the summer of 2015,  Medical Center announced its plans to transform how cancer care is delivered in our region. Our new comprehensive cancer care center will house cancer diagnostic and treatment services, technology and physician specialists in one convenient location designed with patients in mind. MC will broke ground for a Fall/Winter 2017 opening. MC is in the process of seeking accreditation by the Commission on Cancer, which demonstrates to the community that we have invested in systems to ensure that cancer patients receive high quality, coordinated care, as well as making the commitment to ensure that supportive services and resources addressing the full continuum of care are available in our community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

RN with charge or lead experience, past supervision would be a plus.  Nurse manager at a smaller facility will also be considered.  

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.

OCN Certification preferred, or obtained within one year of hire.

Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider card.

Managing in a union environment preferred.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years oncology nursing management experience

Minimum of 10 years working in oncology nursing

Nurse Manager will demonstrate knowledge of advance nursing theory, clinical practice, adult education principles, and statistic s and performance evaluation.  

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills along with supervision and leadership skills required.  

Nurse Manager must be highly motivated, creative, self-directed, and articulate and must possess a comprehensive broad knowledge base.  

He/she must have organizational abilities and possess knowledge of growth and development

Nurse Manager must have good hearing, vision and communication skills. 

He/she must recognize safety issues to self and others and be able to assess and implement use of lifts or other personnel to lift and move patients of all sizes and weights in a sale manner throughout the entire shift. 

He/she must be free of ambulatory impairment that would restrict ability to navigate stairways and corridors at speedy rate for emergencies.  

Must be able to function well in stressful situations and have good, creative, problem solving skills.  

He/she needs strong leadership skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate.

Minimum License Requirement:

Current NY RN License

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
