JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Oversee facility to drive meeting of production requirements and utilize various resources (personnel, equipment processes, material, etc.) based on weekly schedule  
  • Manage production and planning, procurement, storage and distribution of materials and products to meet customer requirements
  • Manage quality standards and housekeeping according to agreed standards
  • Ensure inventory control accuracy and weekly cycle counts
  • Involvement in new process development and CI initiatives
  • Daily review of efficiency reports to insure targets and ISO requirements are met and adhered to
  • Provide direction and take action to insure targets are met, review BOM variances
  • Participate in JHSC and manage Health & Safety programs including monthly safety meetings, enforce established company safety rules and regulations, Accident Investigations / prevention, monitor and counsel Supervisors on safety-related activities
  • Prepare production plan in accordance with the release schedules and customer requirements
  • Direct and supervise the development of purchasing policies and procedures for the procurement of all materials, components and services required by the plant
  • Direct the activities of warehousing, transportation and inventory storage to ensure the most efficient, timely and cost effective material flow into, through, and out of the plant
  • Participate in the formulation of short and long term business plans
  • Direct the activities of the Maintenance Department and ensure that equipment and facility is maintained in a safe and productive manner
  • Manage the production planning, storage and distribution of materials and products to meet customer requirements
  • Monitor variances in plant production levels
  • Provide direction to staff and hourly employees on labour/management issues and administration of the CBA
  • Troubleshooting production lines throughout the plant
  • Provide leadership in continuous improvement activities
  • Monitor production reports for input into payroll system
  • Schedule plant employees / shifts / departments and provide direction on day-to-day matters to Buyer
  • Ensure equipment and machinery is operating in a safe and efficient manner
  • Prepare annual budgets for areas of responsibility
  • Ensure procedures for inventory control are strictly adhered to
  • Liaise with Sales to expedite orders as required
  • Authorize departmental expenditures
  • Play an active role in ISO 9001 and 14001, monitoring and maintaining systems
  • Participate and facilitate daily production meetings, scheduling meetings
  • Monitor and control finished good inventory levels for all customers
  • Advise Customer Service on delivery dates as established from the date of customer material receipt
  • Review existing inventory on an on-going basis, adjusting weekly in-house inventories as needed (increases / reductions)
  • Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree or College Diploma in a technical field ; may consider equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience in a union environment
  • Management of a three-shift / continuous operations environment
  • Leader with people management skills who is positive and leads by example
  • Experience putting in operational metrics and holding people accountable to same
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • Backing in manufacturing with a clear understanding of production planning and scheduling techniques
  • Hands-on multi-tasker
  • Computer knowledge (ERP, Microsoft Office)
  • Continuous improvement experience
  • General knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Act, Employment Equity Act and Ontario Employment Standards Act
