This individual will be responsible for leading the operations team, including all planning, coordinating and management of staff. He or she will establish goals and objectives and measure success, championing a culture workplace safety, continuous improvement and efficiencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Lead the entire operations team
  • Establish, implement and measure operational targets
  • Foster a culture of workplace health and safety
  • Support daily operations, liaising with supervisors and key staff to ensure tasks are completed on time, always valuing safety as the top priority
  • Evaluate operational processes and identify areas for improvement
  • Solve operational challenges
  • Create new policies and procedures
  • Monitor staffing needs and contribute to hiring, training and performance management of employees
  • Monitor production and operational efficiencies and introduce new training and safety practices
  • Create operational plans, mapping out production requirements
  • Manage budgets, prepare financial documents and activity reports
  • Maximize equipment and resource investments
  • Develop strategic plans for operational activities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8-10 years of operational management experience in a marine or heavy industrial setting
  • Managers from the marine, mining, forestry, pulp and paper, oil and gas and petrochemical industries with a focus on operations and business processes are encouraged to apply
  • Experience managing large teams
  • Solid leadership, negotiation, people management and conflict resolution skills
  • Broad knowledge of marine/heavy industry practices and standards
  • Experience in operational business planning
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Experience developing policies and procedures and championing a culture of workplace health and safety
  • Experience identifying, implementing and measuring operational improvements
  • Strong decision-making abilities, experience delegating and holding others accountable
  • Formal training in business operations management is an asset but not required
  • Experience leading unionized teams is an asset but not required
