JOB DESCRIPTION

The Manager-Lake Operations will ensure cost effective and timely execution of all Exploration, Development and Production (EDP) projects on the mining reserve known as the Lake.  This 58 square mile resource is mined to extract a broad portfolio of commercial finished products including soda ash, sulfate of potash, boric acid and a family of branded borates.  In addition to ensuring sustainable harvesting of Lake resources, this position will be responsible for the brackish and potable water operations that supply the production facilities and oversee the daily operation and maintenance activities that support the mining infrastructure.  This position reports directly to the Manager-Minerals Technology and Mining Operations. Compliance with applicable State and Federal regulations related to safety and environment is an important part of this position.  

 

Key responsibilities:

 

Establish priorities and direct teams of operations and maintenance personnel to ensure day-to-day operational excellence and deliver EDP project execution objectives. Proactively lead team to identify, troubleshoot and correct flow and grade delivery issues.  

  • Align teams and manage a culture of accountability, executional excellence, continuous improvement and professional growth to build organizational capability including setting and managing standards for operations, maintenance and training.
  • Manage and carry out effective communications with all the customers of Lake operations on a daily basis.

 

Manage the operations of the resource production assets to ensure optimum availability of brine feedstock, brackish and potable water around-the-clock in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

  • Deliver resource (saline brine, brackish water and potable water) as budgeted for each production plant.
  • Develop, review and manage daily performance reports and metrics to drive the O&M strategies to deliver flow and grade at optimal cost.
  • Build relationships between Lake Operations and functional managers within the company.
  • Work with Lake team to analyze, evaluate and interpret data to ensure development and operations projects will not adversely impact resource.
  • Manage change using documented, structured programs to identify and address risks associated with new projects and modifications to existing processes. 

 

Manage and execute EDP project plans on the Lake specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and allocation of available internal and external resources.

  • Develop project proposals to determine goals, time frame, budget limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources. 
  • Develop budget and manage O&M expenses, oversee proposal development, bid packages and subcontractor agreements.
  • Coordinate the activities of project team to ensure project plans and proposals are complete, accurate and effective and progress on schedule and within budget. 

 

Develop plans for efficient personnel, machine and material utilization, including heavy equipment fleet.

  • Ensure general services responsibilities of the Lake organization are executed cost effectively.
  • Ensure that all assets are properly managed, safeguarded and secure.
  • Implement best practices and the most effective technologies in all areas of operations.
  • Identify and implement improvements in operations to reduce cost, improve HSE performance and improve productivity in line with the company mission.
  • Troubleshoot operating issues and formulate effective corrective and preventative operating strategies.
  • Create and monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement while ensuring findings and action plans are communicated effectively

Manage, monitor and audit Safety, Health and Environmental (SSHE) practices to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with company, federal and state standards. Establish and monitor SSHE objectives for the Operations team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8-10 years’ experience in Petrochemical, Chemical, Mining, or Heavy Industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-At least 5 years of production operations experience, including managing teams 

-Knowledge of hydrology and/or reservoir geology is preferred.

-Demonstrated knowledge of pumps and piping systems

-At least 5 years supervisory experience

-Demonstrated mastery in the skills of project management 

-Lean Six Sigma experience preferred

 

The preferred candidate will have a working knowledge of drilling and subsurface exploration, including well field development and production operations. The candidate should have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.  Familiarity with CMMS and project management software preferred. Strong analytical, verbal, writing and presentation skills are required.  Experience with EPA and BLM regulations is a plus.

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
