JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Packaging Engineer 

Our client has experienced tremendous growth and continues to expand their operations within the CPG industry. Due to this expansion we are seeking an innovative Packaging Engineer who can help them further enhance their very complex packaging effort. As the Packaging Engineer, much of your focus will be directed toward designing materials to raise efficiencies and cost reductions from project conception through commercialization. Excellent opportunities for advance are available for the high performing individual. Position reports to the VP of Supply Chain.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work across teams to continuously design and improve packaging and the specifications system. Executes Material Change Orders and MSPECS for packaging specifications as required by these teams.
  • Engages with current and potential packaging suppliers to evaluate their potential performance based on quality, functionality and cost. Responsible to work with Commercialization and Operations to identify optimum customer pallet patterns for new products.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain specifications for all brand name and private label packaging items. Packaging substrates primarily include paper and plastics. 
  • Communicate with packaging materials vendors, including soliciting specifications details and ensuring compliance with accepted specifications and advising on supplier performance.
  • Analyze drawings and other technical data to determine appropriate attributes of packaging materials to meet customer specifications and production capabilities.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in packaging innovations, and sources of supply through contacts with suppliers, trade publications, shows and downstream manufacturers.
  • Work with Vice President and Purchasing to identify cost savings and synergy improvement programs such as alternative vendor and packaging material opportunities.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • BS in Package Engineering
  • 7-10 years of prior CPG Packaging Engineering experience
  • Excellent track record of improving packaging efficiencies
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent Outside/Inside Customer interfacing abilities

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
