Client is a large global specialty chemicals company with 75 plants globally, 15 in North America, 3 in NJ.

This is a newly created position. It is a small 50 person 1 shift union plant. Primarily blending and packaging. Plant is in Northern NJ, NY metro area

The Plant Engineering and Maintenance Manager will report to the Plant Manager Reporting to this positition will be a Maintenance Supervisor (and maintenance department), Project Engineer and a PCT (Process Controls Technical Engineer).

Must have an Engineering Degree, Maintenance and direct Supervisory experience


About the Job

Specialty Chemicals manufacturer, in Northern NJ, needs a Maintenance Engineer/Manager. Working with a safety-first approach, will be responsible for supervising, analyzing, modifying, and upgrading existing processes and procedures.

You will work in a modern automated manufacturing facility that does bulk batch blending and packaging. This is a small plant of 50-75 people. This position has one-shift responsibility.

  • Ensure daily batch production requirements are met, that product and production variability is kept in check, and that quality standards remain high.
  • Work toward continuous improvement of safety and output.
  • Oversee maintenance of equipment and facility to make sure products are manufactured according to schedule, with minimal disruptions.
  • Evaluate capital expenditure improvements that improve quality and safety. Responsible for scheduling preventive maintenance, inspections, equipment overhaul.
  • Conduct root cause analysis studies, and develop process changes          



  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical engineering, Chemistry, or similar, plus five years’ experience.
  • Five years of process and maintenance engineering experience in a similar environment, and experience supervising maintenance staff.
  • Strong leader, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of facilities and machinery maintenance, safety, production schedules.
  • Familiar with working to meet Key Performance Indicators. Develop reports in MS Office, MS Project and SAP. Should be familiar with ISO quality standards and Lean manufacturing.
  • Maintain a work environment that produces high quality materials in a safe manner. Should be familiar with OSHA requirements and HPWT (High Performance Work Teams).
  • Experience using SAP or other large-scale ERP system software is required.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement in a process environment.
