Our client is a construction product manufacturing company holding a patent of a state-of-the-art product that has been successfully developed over the last few years by a group of experts in the field. They are currently starting up a manufacturing facility in Moose Jaw, SK and will be building a new plant in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia this year. Their corporate office is located in Vancouver.

They are in need of a Plant Manager to assist with the set-up of the Moose Jaw, SK plant and run the whole facility through staff management, administration, reporting, etc. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of previous plant management experience, outstanding operational skills and the ability to lead and improve a team. This person needs to understand lean manufacturing techniques, be a strategic thinker and have the ability to control costs while increase efficiency. The position reports to the VP Operations and will have several direct reports: Production Supervisor, Quality Manager, Procurement Manager, HR Coordinator, and Manufacturing Engineer.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • P&L and budget responsibilities for the plant
  • Ensure systems and procedures are followed and implement Lean Manufacturing techniques to increase efficiency to improve quality and reduce costs
  • Ensure plant is running at optimal efficiency by identifying and recommending production equipment requirements
  • Empower managers/supervisors/production team to reach high levels of performance
  • Work with the Engineering team to ensure that new product instructions incorporate “design for manufacturability”
  • Design, test and upgrade systems and processes by using a continuous improvement mindset
  • Make sure that production functions are completed in accordance with established production, safety and quality standards
  • Assist VP Operations in designing a second manufacturing plant to be located in the Lower Mainland of BC which incorporates best practice deigns developed at the Moose Jaw facility

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of previous Plant Management experience in a Canadian manufacturing environment
  • Excellent business acumen and operational management skills, including P&L responsibilities
  • Ability to lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives and drive continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of process related standards, ISO systems, and production quality control
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office and understanding of CAD/AutoCad
  • Ability to build and motivate teams. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are required
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities at once
  • Experience with concrete or cement processing will be considered an asset
  • Position will require some domestic travel
