An industry leader in the field of energy related products is seeking a Plant Mechanical Engineer to support one of the largest facilities of it's type in the North America. If you enjoy a role where you're more of a generalist and able to be involved in a variety of area's as opposed to being in a role with a very narrow focus, this may be the role for you. The Plant Mechanical Engineer, as a key member of the Engineering and Inspection team, has the primary objective of assisting in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and inspection of plant equipment. This person will be extensively involved in inspecting equipment per applicable API standards and recommended practices, managing inspection data in Plant Condition Management System (PCMS) software, and maintaining and updating equipment data in PCMS. The role of this position is also assist in further development of the facility Process Safety Management Program. As upgrades and modifications to the facility are planned, this person will work with contractors in the design, engineering and construction process of projects. This position will provide support to various other sites as needed.
Other duties include:

  • Performs duties in compliance with all regulatory activities, including Process Safety Audits, Process Hazard Analysis Audits, Management of Change Process, and corporate compliance auditing.
  • Has knowledge of design and operating parameters of equipment, reviews equipment health data and analyzes the data to identify problems, diagnoses equipment problems and communicates need for maintenance work orders.
  • Strives to determine root cause of failure (RCFA) and assists in the implementation of improved operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Assists with TAR planning and operation execution, as required during unit TAR’s.



  • Must have experience in a refinery, chemical or petro chemical processing plant or a facility utilizing some type of distillation.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ideally 7+years of experience in a maintenance / reliability/ mechanical engineering role.
  • Must be knowledgeable with Mechanical Integrity requirements, PSM, RCFA, API standards, fluid mechanics, vibration analysis and rotating equipment
  • Project management experience
  • Process and equipment troubleshooting skills desired.
  • Previous supervisory experience a plus
  • Familiarity with piping and vessel codes is a must
  • Ability to select/size pumps, design piping, and specify refinery/petrochem equipment is a must
  • Familiar with SAP CMMS as well as preventative maintenance practices
  • Someone with refinery experience from both a maintenance AND project perspective if possible.
