Principal Fermentation Scientist

Greater Philadelphia, PA (Horsham)

 

Global, 50+ year old, specialized contract laboratory testing and research services business has an immediate need for a full-time, direct hire Principal Fermentation Scientist in the greater Philadelphia, PA area for a leading pharmaceutical company. We are also looking for a Team Lead for this group, if you are interested in leadership opportunities.

  • Looking for Fed-Batch Fermentation strategies! (ideally designing media for anaerobic bacterial fermentation, working with several sub-types of host cells)

 

Select Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments in support of the commercial manufacturing process (development, scale up, and troubleshooting/deviations)

  • Design/execute media development to increase product titer in the production fermentation

  • Design/execute a feed batch fermentation strategy for novel media

  • Support protein purification/isolation and characterization work and perform analytical analysis in support of experiments

  • Identify and support improvements to the commercial manufacturing process, focusing on increased product yield or quality improvements, increased efficiency or simplification of operations, risk mitigation, and/or reduced cycle time

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Control, R&D, Validation, and Quality Assurance on projects and initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required, advanced degrees (MS,PhD) desired but not required

  • Experience in fermentation process development and/or process validation laboratories. 

  • Must have experience with fed batch fermentation. 

  • Experience with experimental design, PAT and QbD principles

  • Knowledge of cGMP and FDA and international regulations

  • Strong knowledge of process technology, development, and validation practices for biopharmaceutical products

  • Demonstrated proficiency with interpretation of data, statistical analysis of data, and presenting data in a format that satisfies the objective of the team and drives decisions and/or supports projects

  • Desired experience with protein chemistry, characterization, and analytical methods, including SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, spectrophotometric assays, and RP-HPLC 

  • Knowledge of microbial fermentation processes for expression of proteins

  • Experience working with BSL-2 organisms and general safe laboratory practices for fermentation processes

Ability to work independently, without a lot of supervision – Role can be a TEAM LEAD
