Process Safety Engineer for a specialty chemicals plant located in Southeast, Texas.  Excellent opportunity to progress and grow your skills.  Plant is expanding to twice its size.  Global company.  BS engineering degree needed (prefer chemical engineering) and 5+ years PSM skills in a chemical plant environment.  Excellent work environment/culture.


Our client is a global, leading, specialty chemicals company with a production facility in the Southeast Texas area. This profitable facility will be expanding their plant over the next three years (doubling their plant size and personnel).

Reporting to the Technology Manager, the process safety engineer requires direct interaction with other department managers, staff positions, and corporate technical and safety functional resources to exchange information and ideas directly related to the success of the plant.  This role serves as the technical lead for process safety and serves as the primary source for the process safety program.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Develop an evergreen system to maintain safety critical system lists and testing frequencies
  • Lead and facilitate PHA’s
  • Develop an evergreen system to maintain the plant’s Alarm Management Program
  • Identify and implement technical solutions to resolve PHA and process safety related action items
  • Support the site Risk Management Program
  • Work with project lead to ensure functional safety calculation as needed
  • Support operational efficiency and identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement
  • Assure appropriate programs are in place to maintain process safety goals
  • Lead and educate team members on the importance of Process Safety


Experience Required: 

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, preferably chemical engineering
  • 5-8 years of PSM experience in a chemical or petrochemical plant
  • Understanding of LOPA methodology
  • Functional safety calculation (SIL) and dispersion modeling experience preferred
  • Awareness of process safety/environmental regulations as they apply in a plant environment
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot chemical processes
  • Business/plant/process understanding to evaluate impact on applicable and changing regulations
  • Attention to detail
  • Verbal and written communications skills required for effective interfacing with agencies, plant, division, company and consultants


University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
