As the Reliability Engineer – Conveyor Specialist, you will serve as a subject matter expert for conveyors used throughout the process and product distribution for multiple manufacturing sites and port locations.  This scope of work will include various conveyance types (chain, drag, and belt conveyors) as well as conveyor structures and all sub components and materials (e.g. bearings and grease).  This specialist will be the key resource in leading root cause problem solving analyses, developing counter measures and working with engineering and local maintenance teams to implement actions that reduce unplanned downtime.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the collaboration and documentation with local maintenance and plant engineering, regional engineering, regional maintenance reliability engineers and key suppliers to develop conveyor design standards
  • Facilitate problem solving and root cause investigations with local maintenance, plant engineering, EHS, regional engineering and maintenance for significant conveyor failures
  • Develop baseline map of all conveyance equipment across all sites and the respective application and status
    • Drive that information into a gap analysis/roadmap to excellence
  • Lead Conveyor Best Practice team (cross functional team with local champions - representation from each site across the enterprise)
    • Implement successes across sites as well as lessons learned
  • Define/capture failure modes and process interruptions caused by each conveyor/application within the sites
    • Use historical data to drive future improvements
  • Develop relationships with key vendors
  • Develop specific design standards for best in class conveyors for each application
    • This includes dimensional, metallurgical, material, and layout design based the specific application challenges
  • Conceive, Plan, and Execute well-defined projects to improve operations specific to conveyor repairs, overhauls, and replacements
  • Advise key business leaders (executives and plant management) on improving operations (e.g. higher volume, lower cost)
  • As relates to conveyance equipment, create/update/maintain standard work documents (SOP’s) and PM/PDM’s to develop and train maintenance, manufacturing operators, and Team Leaders
    • Establish methods to insure effective execution of these standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering degree (preferred)
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience in heavy equipment environment
  • 1+ years of experience with bulk material conveyors
  • Experience with
    • Wood processing
    • All types of conveyance systems (pneumatic, chain, belt, screw, etc.)
    • CAD software (AutoCAD or Solidworks preferred)
    • Lean/Continuous Improvement
  • Knowledge of
    • CMMS (Microsoft Dynamic AX preferred)
    • MES systems
    • Wonderware (programming ability preferred)
  • Six Sigma Certification [Greenbelt or Black belt] (preferred)
  • Strong problem solving/analysis skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork orientation
    • Ability to partner with cross-functional teams to achieve goals
  • Proficient leadership skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite
    • Ability to learn other applications related to the position
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize
  • Must be data-driven and a self-starter
  • This position requires significant amount of travel
    • Up to 80%
