Our Client is a major North American player in the manufacture and maintenance of specialty heavy industrial transportation equipment. They are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer who can make an immediate impact as the company continues to grow its sales and services operations. This company has come through the Pandemic in one of the few high-growth industries and expects that trajectory to be accelerated. The Senior Buyer must be able to work in an environment that maintains over 20,000 unique part and item IDs across both in-house manufacturing and a robust retail parts inventory. The total inventory turns dozens of times per year and is sourced from nearly 450 vendors, requiring a vigilant and proficient daily pace of procurement operations.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate that they think, act, and plan strategically about the entire purchasing and supply chain process. Our client is not looking for a tactical buyer, doing the job the way it has always been done. The Senior Buyer they are seeking has the skills and the gumption to negotiate with vendors for better pricing and terms as warranted. This candidate must have great people skills and be driven to work a problem through to the solution.

 

Career growth is part of the equation for an experienced buying professional (who has a bit of gasoline in their veins for company culture) as they must have the capacity and skills to replace their boss and become the Supply Chain Manager. JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the incumbent procures parts and materials for new-build manufacturing, as well as upgrades, service jobs, and resale to retail customers. The Senior Buyer also sets up and maintains item data in the inventory system, sources special-order parts and materials, manages product returns, and facilitates parts and materials transfers within divisions of the company.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities currently but has the potential for future direct, and "dotted line" reporting through business and career growth for the proven performer.

 

Essential Job Functions:

1) Purchase Orders Management (50%)

  • Generate purchase orders (POs) for parts and materials, and issue to approved vendors.
  • Manage POs in-process by changing existing POs, creating change orders, and taking actions to expedite, defer or cancel POs.
  • Receive vendor order confirmations to ensure order specifications such as price, quantity, and delivery time conform to POs.
  • Track late deliveries and follow up with suppliers to identify root causes and obtain new delivery dates.

 

2) Product Returns (15%)

  • Process parts returns, including obtaining return merchandise authorizations (RMAs) from vendors to receive refunds and following up with customers and vendors to ensure completion of return transactions.

 

3) Unique Parts & Materials Sourcing (10%)

  • Source special-order parts and materials, including finding and vetting suppliers, assessing quality vs affordability, and determining ordering parameters such as pricing, minimum order quantities, and lead times.
  • Participate in vendor price negotiations and vendor performance assessments fostering strong vendor relationships.

 

4) Item Data Maintenance (15%)

  • Set up parts and materials in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, which includes entering such information as item pricing, forecasts, and lead-time requirements.
  • Maintain parts and materials item data by keeping all specifications and pricing up to date in the ERP system.

 

5) Transfer Request Facilitation (10%)

  • Facilitate transfer of parts and materials between production and distribution warehouses.
  • Obtain necessary management authorizations of transfer requests, record inventory transfers in ERP, and notify warehouse/purchasing personnel when transfers may be made.

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  • Self-motivated and able to perform job duties semi-autonomously.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and superior professional experience relating to logistics and purchasing in high-volume engineering-focused, customer-centric, heavy industries.

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
