This position performs all facets of project engineering for industrial and municipal control systems. Responsible for the design, development, installation, and commissioning of equipment used to monitor and control systems, machinery, and processes. Ensures that projects are produced on time, with budget, and consistent with industry and client standards


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsible charge for projects within the engineer’s experience and expertise
  • Designs, installs, and commissions new control systems, executes modifications and upgrades, and
    troubleshoots existing systems
  • Strong understanding of NFPA, NEC, UL, OSHA, ISA, NEMA, IEC, ANSI and other applicable codes and
    standards as they pertain to the design and installation of industrial control panels
  • Reviews control system historical and trend data and produces written reports to explain findings
  • Coordinates project designs with other disciplines to determine equipment needs, provide input for
    operating procedures, provide technical information, etc.
  • Attends meetings with owners, clients, contractors, and/or other specialists
  • Conducts project job site visits to make observations and take measurements as necessary
  • Coordinates with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to ensure compliance with relevant health
    and safety regulations and quality standards
  • Develops man-hour budgets with the Project Manager; plans work and performs tasks in accordance with
    the budget
  • Provides input, feedback, and updates on project schedules and plans work in accordance with the schedule
  • Assists with the preparation and implementation of a proactive Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
    plan for projects
  • Coordinates with suppliers, contractors, and clients to determine project scope and cost
  • Utilizes and assists less experienced staff in understanding company technical policies and procedures
    during the execution of projects for clients; provides coaching and development
  • Maintains a continued focus on keeping up with industry trends and changes with continued self-education
    and training
  • Actively participates in professional organizations and client groups (i.e., attending events, serving on
    committees) where the technical reputation and professional image of the firm may be enhanced
  • Participates in tasks such as establishing project scopes and budgets or cost estimates
  • Assists technical leaders in the design and execution of technical training for colleagues
  • Provides input during staff reviews



  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field from an ABET accredited college and eight years of experience in
    Automation and Control System Engineering
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer
  • Extensive experience with multiple PLC systems (Rockwell Automation preferred)
  • Extensive experience with multiple SCADA/HMI software packages (RA FactoryTalk, GE iFIX, and Schneider
    Wonderware preferred)
  • Extensive experience with the specification and installation of variable speed drives
  • Extensive industrial experience in control system design, instrumentation, installation and troubleshooting,
    process control, and variable speed drives
  • Demonstrated a consistent ability to successfully manage projects and customers
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other relevant design tools preferred
  • Experience in food & beverage, chemical, petrochemical, and water/wastewater treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook)
  • Thorough knowledge of control system design and process instrumentation
  • Thorough knowledge of DCS and PLC control systems
  • Thorough knowledge of SCADA and HMI packages
  • Thorough knowledge of control system architectures and communication protocols
  • Thorough knowledge of control system installation and troubleshooting practices and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of ISA, NFPA, UL, and other applicable codes, regulations, and standards
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Indoors in a normal office environment with some exposure to excessive noise, darkness/poor lighting,
    fumes, or dust
  • Will travel to and navigate construction sites, industrial plants, or water treatment facilities with all the
    constraints and hazards they present
  • Minimal overnight travel to attend project meetings and/or training sessions
