The Process Safety Engineer/Specialist will coordinate the process safety efforts across the site, and will interface with the appropriate ESSH and manufacturing resources to resolve, implement and partner in the process safety requirements. This position will also coordinate the Management of Change (MOC) process, KMS (incident tracking system) and be the point of conduct with the property insurance agencies.

Targeted Outcomes:

  • Identify and evaluate process and safety risks and assist in the development of effective solutions to mitigate the risk
  • Ensuring facility has elements in place to comply with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) rules. Partner with operating units to drive process safety improvements and risk reduction
  • Develop leading and lagging process safety indicators
  • Populate the existing process safety scorecard
  • Partner with reliability on equipment status

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies
  • Auditing existing process safety programs site wide
  • Notify responsible persons to bring process safety corrective actions to closure
  • Setting and tracking goals and measurements for PSM program improvements
  • Developing and implementing strategies to reduce the site risk profile (risk based approach)
  • Coordinating process safety training at the site
  • Provide oversight for the site management of change (MOC) process
  • Interpreting, communicating and facilitating timely and cost effective implementation of new requirements at the site
  • Lead or participate in site process safety investigation teams
  • Participating in process safety audits and investigations at other Ascend plants
  • Participating on corporate-wide process safety networks to develop and update process safety related requirements and procedures 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills & Experience:

  • BS degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical engineering preferred)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Programs (RMP) regulations
  • 5 years’ experience working with OSHA PSM
  • Ability to read and understand Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational and planning skills, facilitation skills and computer skills
  • Ability to achieve results through others
  • Flexible, analytical and detailed oriented

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
