Our client is a start-up company that has come up with an innovative, eco-friendly, biodegradable product designed to reduce plastic waste in the oceans. This incredible team of passionate entrepreneurs has launched their newest creation in the North American market about 2 years ago and focused on B2C sales until now. Given the great results and the increasing demand of the product, they decided to introduce their unique product to the retail market. In order to penetrate this new market and establish strong relationships with some of the most recognized retailers in North America, they are in need of an experienced sales individual who will be responsible for identify new business opportunity and establish connections with the retail industry. Previous experience and existing connections with US retailers is mandatory to be considered for this role.

To be effective and efficient, they are looking for a Business Development Manager who has already had exposure to the retail market and has existing relationships with at least some of the retailers that the company would like to target. Previous experience calling on companies such as Lululemon, Vega, Wholefoods, REI, MEC, etc. would represent the ideal candidate.

  • Work with the existing team to develop and implement a comprehensive long-term strategy for the North American market
  • Build long-lasting relationships with retailers in Canada and subsequently in the US
  • Support on new product launches and brand strategy
  • Proactively identify and seek new sales opportunities by prospecting and following up on leads
  • Develop comprehensive customers business plans to deliver the company objectives
  • Create and utilize promotions and merchandising programs to increase sales
  • If required, attend trade shows in order to promote the brand and establish new business partnerships
  • Acquire in depth company and product knowledge in order to deliver exceptional customer service


  • 7+ years of experience in a similar role calling on retailers in North America
  • Previous experience in the CPG/Retail industry mandatory
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills necessary to negotiate with C-Level Executives of large organizations
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services
  • Strong entrepreneurial mind set
  • Ability to multi task and effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of forecasting, planning and negotiation with multiple functions at the client level
