JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will provide project technical leadership, subject matter expertise, and project management to the technical team in the design, development, integration, and testing of hardware systems such as optical tracking and data collection systems, free-space optical communication systems, and motion control systems. Because of the nature of the work, customers, and contracts, only U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.
Key Responsibilities include
- Design, perform, and document experiments to characterize sensors and lasers
- Provide project management support to Program Director
- Draft statements of work
- Draft project status reports
- Develop level of effort estimates
- Develop bills of materials
- Perform market/trade studies; analyses of alternatives
- Manage/coordinate efforts to design, fabricate, install, integrate, and test electronic control and interface devices
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include
- Active OR Past Security Clearance
- Master’s Degree in Optical Engineering
- Undergraduate degree in optics, electrical engineering, or physics
- 10+ years of experience in optical engineering assignments
- Experience with optical tracking systems
- Knowledgeable in control algorithms (PID) for tracking mounts
- Experience in:
- Optical hardware/software integration
- Field testing of electro-optical hardware and software
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong technical writing skills
- Proficient with MATLAB or equivalent
- Capable of calculating link budgets
- Capable of performing simulation of optical component performance for given operating scenarios
- Experience with Zemax
- Collegial and collaborative approach to work
Desired Skills
- Design, perform, and document experiments and tests using optical tracking systems to collect customer required optical data
- Understand mission performance requirements
- Determine system performance specifications in mission environment
- Research, evaluate, and implement system repairs, modifications, and upgrades to meet mission requirements
- Serve customers, lead/support team members, and manage resources
- Lead/perform the analysis and reporting of collected data
- Lead/assist efforts to test, evaluate, and upgrade electro-mechanical, electro-optical, and photonic systems
- Experience in government test and evaluation programs
- Proficient with C, C++
- Familiar with Linux
