Job Details

• Prepares and stains microscopic tissue slides from surgical and autopsy specimens for microscopic examination by pathologist to render diagnosis.  This includes various specialized techniques and staining procedures.
•  Histology technicians must also be familiar with many types of lab equipment and monitor it for signs of disrepair.
• Histology technicians perform some routine tests, often pre-screening samples for a pathologist or a laboratory technologist. 
• Technicians usually share responsibility for keeping the lab clean and sanitary, for sterilizing equipment, and for handling specimens according to the lab's standards.

High school diploma and college sciences that would qualify person for certification as a histotechnician by the Board of Registry (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) eligible. High school diploma and college sciences plus some on the job training may be considered for those staff with previous experience.
