JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Accounting will provide leadership and guidance with respect to financial reporting, accounting, and income tax matters.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, Taxation, Investments

  • Design and implement efficient internal financial reporting and monitoring systems and internal controls.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of automated systems.
  • Involved in the timely delivery of quality financial reports, including commentary and analysis for distribution to local Senior Management, Home Office and on all required bases (IFRS, IFRS-Munich Re, Munich, US GAAP, Statutory Basis, US Income Tax, and the European Commission’s Solvency II).
  • Responsible for corporate and premium tax returns and the management of audits from tax authorities in cooperation with the regional tax function.
  • Lead accounting projects and participate in company-wide and/or group wide projects.
  • Assist in the creation of the Annual Business Plan, administration expense budgets, forecasts, and monitoring results.
  • Provide timely and effective business development support including pro-forma financials and regulatory impacts to meet business development needs as required.
  • Manage financial audit engagements, external and internal.
  • Maintain business relationships with peers at client companies and within the industry generally – i.e. other insurers/ reinsurers, bank, state regulatory personnel, tax authorities, industry analysts (AM Best, etc.) and auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 15 years of financial management experience, either Big 4 public accounting, insurance industry or equivalent.
  • CPA and other professional accounting designation preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of financial reporting in insurance and reinsurance preferred.
  • Experience in GAAP, IFRS, Statutory and Income Tax bases of accounting and Solvency II.
  • Ability to interpret and apply new accounting rules, policies and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Proven history of creating, growing and sustaining a strong productive team.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple (and sometimes changing) priorities
  • Strong SAP systems knowledge preferred.
  • Domestic and international travel required
