Our client is a successful energy trading firm. The Financial Analyst will report to the Chief Operating Officer and is expected to be involved in all major operational activities of the firm. The Financial Analyst will work closely with a team of energy trading professionals from diverse backgrounds that include economics, operations research, electrical engineering, public policy and business, and have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of a growing firm.

The candidate should be extremely adept at financial and quantitative analysis and have experience designing and implementing reports and reporting processes. Furthermore, the candidate needs to be responsible, independent and self-reliant, intellectually curious, effective working in a fast-paced team environment, detail & process oriented, and able to see projects through to completion.

 Interest in energy or commodity markets is helpful.  It is also beneficial if the candidate has some basic experience working with databases and can design and execute simple SQL queries.

                                                                   Financial Analyst

Our client is a successful energy trading firm.The firm is seeking a Financial Analyst with a mix of traditional finance, accounting and reporting skills who has significant experience creating financial reports and producing decision-making tools.

The role of the Financial Analyst is to provide analytical and management support of  the firm’s financial accounts and those of its funds, provide daily operational support of trading and settlement activities, aid in the design and development of operational, financial and risk reporting tool sets and to support the overall management of the business. The Financial Analyst will report to the Chief Operating Officer and is expected to be involved in all major operational activities of the firm. The Financial Analyst will work closely with a team of energy trading professionals from diverse backgrounds that include economics, operations research, electrical engineering, public policy and business, and have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of a growing firm.

The desired candidate is someone who combines a strong accounting & finance background with technical database access and report creation skills who is looking to work in a small, dynamic environment where their efforts are directly tied to commercial decisions and outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing financial analyses and analytic tools to support internal and external financial reporting.
  • Creating and reconciling daily, weekly and monthly financial packages for both internal and external audiences.
  • Working with developers to automate regular reporting systems & processes.
  • Providing daily reconciliation with the various energy markets for trades and settlements and continually monitoring changes within specific market settlement processes.
  • Owning all aspects of FP&A process for yearly budget, mid-year outlook and forecasted multi-year planning focusing primarily on operating expenses, vendor payment timelines and compensation models.
  • Working with existing vendors and researching new vendors to support overall operations of the business.
  • Developing and managing suite of reporting tools and analytical engines to support firm’s approach to risk management policy.
  • Working with traders and management to strategically think of new ways at analyzing P&L movements.
  • Creating custom reports accessing firm’s internal financial databases.
  • Partnering with external fund administrator to ensure quarterly fund reporting is timely and accurate.
  • Working in Quickbooks to manage the firm’s accounting books and partnering with external bookkeeper to ensure monthly close process is accurate and timely.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

                                                                   Financial Analyst

  • 3 plus years of experience in one of these roles; financial analysis, fund accounting/ operations or consulting,
  • "Top tier" excel skills and demonstrated skills in handling "large data sets",
  • Experience creating custom reporting packages for both business support needs and decision support activities
  • Able to operate in a flat, collaborate investment management firm with a diverse collection of talent.

Education:
University - Bachelor's Degree/3-4 Year Degree
